What is the most common car from the past that you never seen? They used to make the VW Golf mk1, mk2, and mk3 in Indonesia, yet the youngest one i've ever seen was the mk4, despite VW claimed to sold over 20,000 units in each generation..

Toyota Camry. I think they might've been sold here for a while, but I can only find ten for sale in the whole country, and I've never seen one in person.

I've got a Mk4, and now that you mention it, I see very few Mk3s here in TX. Very few. Maybe they just sucked?

Interesting. Where are you?
I would love to move to a camry-less country.

Yeah, lot of people said mk3 VW Golf sucks.

The Stellar was the best selling car in Canada when it came out, but i haven't seen a single one in my life.

The oldest Hyundai i've ever seen was the S-Coupe. So the old Hyundais like the Pony, i never saw them.

The UK. The Camry just isn't the sort of car people tend to go for over here.

Mk. IV not much better.

all the mk3's sucked

*brb moving to UK.
Seriously, if i had to move out from Indonesia, definitely UK. Especially there's quite a few very cheap used car i saw in there, and it's RHD.
My only problem were car insurances.

But...
R32!

I've gotten 14 years and 2o5000 miles out of my mk4. The interior has gone to shit, but it runs and runs and runs.

Yeah, insurance can be a right arse to deal with. It gets a lot better as you get older, but as you'd be starting fresh, claim-history wise - I don't think they accept the no claims of foreign insurers - it'd take you a couple of years to build up a decent no-claims discount.

I've got 205000 miles on my '01 mk4. The interior is shit, but it keeps running and running.

Aye, they look good, but Mk. IV burns oil and, if you've got an automatic, it will go boom. Also roof leaks, hard seats on the Mk. IVA, and cup-holders blocking your use of the radio on Mk. IVA.

I got 50K out of my GLX mk3 Jetta before it started falling apart. Mk4 was a much better and refined platform for sure

Yeah.
I mean, i once saw a 2006 Mercedes-Benz S500 with 56k miles on the clock, for half the price of brand new Vauxhall Astra. But as we know, the insurance on that thing is possibly quite crazy.
But i wonder which one will get a cheaper insurance: young UK natives or older immigrant?

I had the Jetta version. Same car, no hatch. Transmission went boom three times because of a leaky roof ( a sneaky leaky roof, because I never saw it, got a recall notice instead) letting water get into the transmission control computer. It also burned oil. I got rid of it this year, still needing a new trans. It got sent to auction, apparently, instead of the scrapper. I'm actually pleased with that, because it was actually a nice car apart from those issues.

Sadly, that's true. And at this point most of the mk4 is staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanced bro!

I'm going older immigrant. Those insurance companies fucking HATE people my age.

I guess i'll wait a few years before moving to UK then.
*I'm 24, btw. I guess insurance company would hate me as much as they hate you.

Eh, you've got four years on me. I think the real drop-off point is 25, so you're close.

Stanced, or driven by high-school/college freshman girls. Honestly, same level of abuse.

205k and I'm still on the original clutch. (knock on wood)

Oh, that's quite good to hear!
Mrs Aya has an uncle living on York. I guess i should visit that place and stay for a few weeks to see how life's in UK suits me and the girl, and of course, driving his Citroen C3. We didn't got those in Indonesia, and since mrs aya is a Citroen nut she would love it.

I should clarify, mine was an automatic. As for clutch, that's a wear item and its longevity is as much up to the user as it is the quality of the car.
![]() 04/13/2015 at 18:40 |

Yeah, I figured you were talking automatic. For me, there's a visceral disconnect between VWs and automatic transmissions.

Seems like all the 80's Taurus's have disappeared in the last few years. Used to see them everywhere.
